Hawks Battle to The End, Fall to SUNY Oneonta

Oneonta, N.Y. – The Hartwick Men's Soccer team took the short trip up the road to match up against a familiar foe in SUNY Oneonta in The Battle of the Hills.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Hartwick 0 SUNY Oneonta 2

  • Location:  Oneonta, N.Y.

  • Records:  Hartwick (0-2-0, 0-0-0 Empire 8) SUNY Oneonta (2-0-0, 0-0-0 SUNYAC)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Hartwick's defense was the first to be tested with the Red Dragons making pushes into the opposing third and get an early shot on goal but would be halted by a sliding Dante Gesamondo (Lynnfield, Mass.)

  • Offense was hard to come by for both squads in the early goings of the match as Andres Ordonez Acosta (Estado de Mexico, Mexico)registered the lone shot for the Hawks that half.

  • The Hawks back line was tested several times in the first half but Hartwick would hold strong as Oneonta put up six shots but couldn't find the back of the net.

  • The second half got underway and the Hawks would work together to stop the opposition's attack, as the men's soccer squad began to build momentum and push into the attacking third.

  • Not too soon after, Hartwick would be bombarded with an array of shots, Gesamondo would thwart three straight shots before finally conceding a goal in the 64th minute.

  • Unfortunately, the lead was extended after Oneonta would knock in their second and final goal in the 89th minute.
