WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Hartwick vs Thiel
- Hartwick started off strong in their morning match, using a balanced attack in the first set to claim the 25-18 win.
- However, the Tomcats responded in the second set, jumping out to an 8-4 lead thanks to back-to-back aces during the service run.
- The Hawks put together a run of their own, pushing points behind the serve of Shelby Swartz (Candor, N.Y.) and the attack of Shaelyn Thornton (Scarborough, Me.) converting a four-point deficit to a one-point lead.
- Unfortunately, Thiel made one more run to close out the second set with a 25-21 win.
- Hartwick stayed on the heels of the Tomcats in the fourth set, but couldn't find a way to overtake the lead, falling 21-25.
- Thiel once again pushed points to extend a two-point lead over Hartwick to a six-point lead and never looked back to close out the 25-18 set win and 3-1 match win.
- Three Hawks put away double-digit kills in the match, with Staecia Silofau (Kapolei, Hawaii) leading the way with 19. She was followed by Kaileigh Brandow (Manorville, N.Y.) with 13 and Thornton with 12.
- Thornton and Brandow also tied for the team-high in digs with 13, while setter, Vanessa Seymour (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) added 11.
Hartwick vs Brockport
- Hartwick and Brockport matched each other's runs throughout the first set, blowing by the normal 25-point mark.
- Unfortunately, it would be the Golden Eagles who would outlast the Hawks, picking up the 31-29 win.
- The story played out in similar fashion as the two found themselves knotted up at 20 in the second set.
- However, Brockport put together a five-point run, closing the set out with back-to-back aces.
