WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
-
The Hawks prepared to match up with the Cardinals who are one of three teams that have clinched a spot in the Empire 8 Championship Tournament.
-
The Cardinals began the battle with early pressure, posting the first shot of the match at the two minute mark but missed wide.
-
Hartwick's defense would continue to be tested in the early goings, with St. John Fisher racked up six shots in the first eleven minutes but only one on goal which was saved by Meghan Perry (Otego, N.Y.).
-
After withstanding the initial barrage of shots from the Cardinals, the Hawks unfortunately conceded the first goal of the game in the 19th minute.
-
Hartwick remained on the defensive side of the ball for the majority of the first half as St. John Fisher controlled possession in the midfield and worked their way into the final third.
-
The Cardinals would test Perry three more times in the half, being thwarted on all three attempts as the Hawks entered the second half trailing by one.
-
With the second half underway, a revitalized Hawks squad got to work from the whistle, working hard to create a chance.
-
After battling in the midfield, the Royal Blue and White worked their way down the pitch and earned their first corner of the game in the 61st minute.
-
As they've done many times this season, the Hawks were able to get on the scoreboard via corner kick with Stella Rowley (Little Falls, N.Y.) capitalizing on the team's lone chance of the night, sneaking the loose ball past the Cardinal keeper to equalize.
-
The Hawks continued to battle hard, not letting up after the equalizer as they looked to get ahead with 25 minutes remaining.
-
Hartwick posted two more corners but could not get anything to show for it as the Cardinals were quick to clear the danger.
-
Meghan Perry continued to dazzle in between the posts, jumping up and snagging a shot headed for the top shelf in the 79th minute for her eighth save of the night.
-
The final eleven minutes of the contest would be rather quiet compared to the prior action of the match, with neither team posting a shot or corner as the Hawks picked up their third consecutive draw.
COMMENTS FROM HEAD COACH BRIAN KNAPP
"We got to see the full force of St. John Fisher today, they are fast, fit, technical, and show a good understanding of the game. There's a reason they were on a six-game winning streak. First half, we gave them too much respect and we were lucky to get to halftime only down 1-0. The second half we showed the kind of grit and resilience that the team and coaching staff know we are capable of and ground out a result that we really needed. I couldn't be more proud of our ability to bounce forward and leave everything on the field here in Rochester. Two games left and more work to do but we can definitely be proud and enjoy that one tonight!"
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
The Hawks will return to Elmore Field for their final regular season home match against the Alfred University Saxons on Friday, October 25th at 7PM.
