ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hawks will carry momentum heading into the Empire 8 Tournament after taking down the Houghton University Highlanders 47-42 on Wednesday night.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Hartwick took control of the contest early, outscoring the visitors from Houghton 12-4 in the 1st quarter.
- Houghton, who currently sits one slot above the Hawks in the E8 standings, responded in the 2nd quarter, putting up 15 points while holding Hartwick to seven.
- At the end of the first 20 minutes of play, the two squads were knotted up at 19 all.
- The Hawks went right back to work out of the break, building up a nine-point lead as they stifled the Highlanders' offense by holding them to just 20% shooting from the field.
- Daniella DeBiase (Staten Island, N.Y.) opened the 4th quarter with a big three from the top of the arc.
- Unfortunately, the Hawks offense stalled from there as the Highlanders worked their way back to within one with just over two minutes remaining.
- Twenty seconds later, Houghton tied it up at 40 all after going one for two from the line with the Hawks over the limit.
- Angelina Maselli (Burlington, Conn.) broke the deadlock on the next possession, hitting two of three from the free throw line after being fouled on her three-point attempt.
- The Hawks iced the game from the line down the stretch to defeat the Highlanders 47-42.
- Hartwick's offense was balanced from start to finish with seven players notching at least two points.
- Isabella Astorino (Warwick, N.Y.) was the only Hawk to reach double figures, posting 10 points. She also contributed defensively with three blocks and four steals.
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
The Hawks will now turn their attention to the Empire 8 Tournament. Hartwick has earned the #4 seed and will host a first round game on Tuesday, February 20. Tip off is set for 6 PM. The team's opponent is still to be determined.
