Hartwick Cruises to 9-0 Triumph over Pioneers at Home

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hartwick Women's Tennis Team matched up with the Pioneers of Utica University, continuing to impress in conference play, coming away with a swift 9-0 victory.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Hartwick matched up with Empire 8 foe Utica as they looked to improve their flawless conference record.

  • Gianna Leggieri (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) and Ryann Ashby (Malta, N.Y.) got the afternoon started for the Hawks, making quick work of Jackie Roberts and Victoria Elefante of Utica with a 8-0 victory.

  • Third doubles followed the same trend as Lily Vanuga (Springville, N.Y.) and Samantha Lantzy (Valatie, N.Y.) picked up an 8-0 win of their own as the duo has won four straight doubles matches to start the season.

  • The duo of Phoebe Olson (Jamestown, N.Dak.) and Alexandra Krasinska (Pine Island, N.Y.) faced a bit more resistance from the Pioneers, as Utica's #1 doubles team was able to take a game away from the Hawks.

  • Olson and Krasinska would not be deterred, as the two Hawks turned up the intensity, shutting down their opponents on their way to a 8-1 victory, securing the doubles sweep.

  • Leggieri kept the dominant day going for the Hawks as singles play got underway, being the first to finish her match, notching a straight set victory.

  • Ashby has found her stride in singles play, recording her fourth straight singles win with a 6-1 straight set victory at #4 singles and securing a match victory for the Hawks.

  • Lantzy capped off her day with her third straight conference singles win in as many appearances, defeating Lyndsey Tiedemann of Utica 6-0, 6-1.

  • At #1 singles, Krasinska handled her opponent 6-0, 6-1, adding yet another straight set victory.

  • Phoebe Olson kept her flawless singles record in tact, notching a 6-1, 6-0 win over her opponent at #2 singles.

  • Maggie Van Valkenburgh (Highland, N.Y.) ended the day with an exclamation point, with a dominant 6-0 straight set win as the Hawks sit atop of the Empire 8 with a 4-0 conference record.

The Hawks will hit the road to face off against Nazareth University on Sunday, September 29th, first serve is set for 1PM.
