ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hartwick Men's Soccer Team fought their way to a hard earned victory over the SUNY Morrisville Mustangs.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: SUNY Morrisville 0 Hartwick 1

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Hawks squared off against the Mustangs and looked to get ahead early, pushing the ball forward and earning an early corner.

  • The corner almost resulted in a goal, as the Hawks missed just high above the crossbar, five minutes in.

  • Both Hartwick and Morrisville took turns pushing into each other's halves but ultimately could not find the connecting passes to put shots up.

  • Time began to dwindle down in the first half as the teams exchanged shots, the Hawks began to gain some momentum after several key stops.

  • Jace Riegel (Owego, N.Y.) did a great job disrupting the Mustang attack, making several clutch tackles throughout the game.

  • Pepe Moreno (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) made a huge impact on the left side of the pitch, consistently making tackles and running into open space, adding versatility to the Hawk attack.

  • Hartwick made one final push in the half, Timmy McQueeney (Wading River, N.Y.) was able to corral a loose ball in the box and belt one past the keeper in the top right corner to take a 1-0 lead with 18 seconds left in the half.

  • With the second half underway, The Hawks began to piece together their game plan and began to impose their will on the Mustangs, swarming them in their own half, making it extremely difficult to clear the ball.

  • The team put up several corners before Morrisville started to possess the ball and take a corner of their own.

  • The Hawks stood tall on defense, only allowing one shot off of a corner that was put on goal but Dante Gesamondo (Lynnfield, Mass.) positioned himself perfectly to save the incoming shot with less than a minute left.

  • Hartwick did a great job securing and maintaining possession, as well as expanding the field with a wide array of passes to help them secure the victory tonight.

COMMENTS FROM HEAD COACH JOHN SCOTT

"We're delighted to get the win tonight. It didn't come easy, but our goal was an absolute belter from Timmy McQueeney. There's always room for improvement, but we were also happy to keep another clean sheet."

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS

The Hawks will return to Elmore Field for the annual Mayor's Cup Tournament, beginning on Saturday, September 7th against Hobart College at 4:00 PM.
