Hartwick Drops Home Contest to Knights

ONEONTA N.Y. - The Hartwick Women's Basketball team matched up with SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon, but ultimately fell to the Knights.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: SUNY Geneseo 66 Hartwick 35

  • Location: Oneonta, N.Y.

  • Records: SUNY Geneseo (8-4, 3-0 Empire 8) Hartwick (2-9, 0-3 Empire 8)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Hartwick hosted the Knights for game two of five consecutive conference home games for the Hawks, with SUNY Geneseo competing in their first season as Empire 8 members.

  • Geneseo spotted an open Knight on the wing, connecting on the shot from beyond the arc to open the contest.

  • Yadi Smith (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) drained a floater in the painted area off the feed from Macy Durkin (Syracuse, N.Y.) to get the Hawks on the board.

  • The Knights scored six straight before Durkin scored her first points of the afternoon with three minutes left in the first.

  • Smith connected on two deep threes to cut the double digit deficit to six to end the first quarter.

  • Hartwick struggled to connect from the field in the second quarter, but also played swarming defense on Geneseo, making it difficult for them to score with efficiency as well.

  • Both teams posted their lowest amounts of points in a quarter as the Hawks looked to work on cutting down the eleven point gap at half.

  • The Hawks conceded a ten point run to open the third quarter before Durkin was able to break the cold spell.

  • Trinity Thornton (Sherburne, N.Y.) connected on two tough shots in the paint to close out the third quarter.

  • Hartwick continued to battle but the Knights remained in control for the rest of the contest.

  • Smith led the team with ten points, Thornton and Seneca Williamson (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) each poured in six points.

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
