HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
After sweeping the Nazareth Golden Flyers on Saturday, the Hartwick Women's Volleyball team looked to carry their momentum into their final non-conference matchup against the Delhi Broncos — and they did just that in convincing fashion.
The Hawks came out flying in the opening set, fueled by early kills from Shelby Swartz (Candor, N.Y.), Samantha Garback (Tully, N.Y.), and setter Braelyn Hornick (Candor, N.Y.). A string of Delhi errors widened the gap before Isabella Gracias (Oneonta, N.Y.) added to the barrage with several powerful swings. The Hartwick attack proved relentless, with contributions from Sophia Palladino (Owego, N.Y.) and Lucille Walker (Ithaca, N.Y.) helping to cap off a dominant 25–9 first-set victory.
The second set featured tighter play as both teams traded errors and service runs. Despite strong serving from the Hawks, the Broncos managed to edge out the set 25–23. Hartwick quickly regained control in the third, using back-to-back aces from Malia Dake (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) to build a seven-point cushion. Swartz continued to lead the offensive push as 'Wick cruised to a 25–13 win.
The fourth set was all Hawks. Mary Kinnane (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) sparked a nine-point run at the service line, racking up five aces to put Hartwick firmly in command, 22–4. The Blue and White closed things out emphatically, 25–11, to seal the 3–1 victory.
Hartwick finishes their non-conference schedule on a high note, showcasing depth, balance, and dominance from the service line heading into the heart of Empire 8 play.
