HOW IT HAPPENED
Hartwick returned to the hardwood for a non-conference matchup with the Marywood Pacers after a strong showing at the Stevenson Mustang Classic this past weekend. Long-range threat Mike Gitz (Commack, N.Y.) opened the scoring with back-to-back triples as the Blue and White looked to match the Pacers' high-octane offense.
'Wick continued to stay hot from deep, with Kesean Leonard (Rochester, N.Y.) and Robby Lucas (Clarks Summit, Pa.) knocking down their first threes as the teams traded leads. Marywood held a narrow advantage until Gitz tied the game at 31 with five minutes remaining, then followed with a bucket inside to give the Hawks their first lead. Foul trouble, however, allowed the Pacers to regain momentum and take a six-point edge into halftime.
The three-point barrage resumed for the Blue and White out of the break, as Samaj Barnwell (Stockbridge, Ga.) and Lucas connected from long distance to spark the second-half push. Despite the fast start, the Hawks' offense cooled while Marywood extended its advantage and put the contest out of reach. Still, 'Wick battled to the end, regaining their rhythm and closing the game with a strong effort.
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
The Hawks will prepare for their first home contest this season, taking on St. Elizabeth on Saturday, November 22 at 2PM.
