Hawks Battle Top-Seeded Brockport in Empire 8 Semifinal Setback

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Hawks returned to the Empire 8 semifinal stage for the first time since 2021, squaring off with top-seeded Brockport — the back-to-back regular season champions who conceded just one goal in conference play all year.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • The Hawks posted five shots and two corners while Brockport generated 17 shots and four corners.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Hartwick nearly struck first as Jenna Mierek (Prospect, Conn.) switched the field and found Millie Caldon (Gilmanton, N.H.) in space. Caldon created separation from her defender and fired from just outside the box, forcing an early save from the Golden Eagle keeper. Brockport quickly countered with sustained pressure, unleashing eight shots before breaking through in the 24th minute on a goal from Caitlin Nelson — the eventual game-winner. The Hawks weathered the storm for the remainder of the half, keeping the deficit at one heading into the break.


Hartwick came out strong in the second half, nearly equalizing within the opening minute as Mierek's header sailed just high. Brockport earned a corner shortly after, but the Hawks continued to push back, earning a shot and corner of their own as rain began to fall. Both defenses held firm in a gritty battle down the stretch, but the Golden Eagles managed to keep Hartwick off the board to seal the win.


Despite a relentless effort and a composed defensive showing, the Hawks' postseason run came to a close with the 1-0 setback to the top seed.
