The Hawks opened their Empire 8 conference play against new conference foe, the SUNY Geneseo Knights with a 1pm start time.

The Knights were quick off the first draw, finding the back of the net only 40 seconds into the game.

Hartwick's defense was steady as Geneseo looked to continue their offensive crusade, where Tess DiNanno (Lynnfield, Mass.) was able to cause a turnover and gain possession for the Hawks.

It wasn't long before the Hawks were back on the defensive, however, with the Knights adding another goal.

 A flurry of shots from Geneseo led to a Hartwick possession and a timeout. Geneseo's offense exploded with 2 more goals, and a yellow card for Hartwick's Kara Anderson (Collingwood, Ont.) gave the Knights a man-up opportunity, which they utilized to score again.

The Knights brought their score up to 7 with another two even-strength goals before Anderson made a goal of her own for the first strike of the afternoon.

Geneseo replied back with another goal straight off the draw, but in the final 30 seconds of the first period, Anderson won the draw and sent it over to Parker Laurin (Wilton, NY), who earned an assist as Kristen Vaccarelli (Dix Hills, N.Y.) found the back of the net.

Hartwick came back with intensity in the second quarter, with Parker Laurin earning herself a goal with the assist from Vaccarelli only 12 seconds into the quarter.

Vaccarelli would soon earn herself another goal with the assist credited to Katrina Marten (Middlesex, N.Y.), but the Knights would respond back with another 5 consecutive goals, creating a 9 goal deficit.

Marten attempted to close the scoring gap with her own goal assisted by Vaccarelli, but the Knights responded with their own, making the score 5-14.

A green card on Geneseo gave the Hawks a man-up opportunity, with Vaccarelli soon snagging her third goal of the game, posting yet another hat-trick in the early season.

Geneseo responded fiercely with another two goals to end the first half.

Less than two minutes into the second half, The Hawks had earned a yellow card, which allowed the Knights to earn their second man-up goal for the day.

Kara Anderson once again dominated the draw, sending the ball to Marten. Marten maneuvered her way around the Knight defense, spotting Vaccarelli for another goal as Marten collected another assist.

The Hawks would not score for the remainder of the third quarter, while the Knights netted an extra three.

In the opening of the fourth period, the Hawks put in Alexa Patrakis (Wilbraham, Mass.) at goal, with Geneseo also making a goalie change.

Both teams held each other off for about four minutes until a successful clear attempt made a perfect scoring opportunity for the Hawk's Kara Anderson, connecting on her second goal of the contest.

Despite a green card and another yellow card on Hartwick, there were no other man-up goals, though Geneseo did manage to tally another two at even-strength, making the final score 8-22 in favor of the Knights.

Brianna Liebro (Castleton, N.Y.) continues to impact the game all throughout the turf, collecting a career-high seven draw controls, adding on three caused turnovers, already setting a new career-high, causing 20 turnovers this season and counting.
The Hawks will return to Wright Stadium for their annual Battle of the Hills matchup with the Red Dragons. Hartwick will take on Oneonta on Wednesday, March 26th at 4PM.
