Hawks Continue Conference Win Streak With Triumph Over Wildcats

UTICA, NY - The Hawks continue their conference win streak with a huge victory over the SUNY Poly Wildcats on the road.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Hartwick 22 SUNY Poly 7

  • Location: Utica, NY

  • Records: Hartwick (6-6, 3-3 Empire 8) SUNY Poly (1-10, 0-6 Empire 8)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Hartwick set the tone early, with Kristen Vaccarelli (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and Brianna Liebro (Castleton, N.Y.) dominating the draw controls.

  • A caused turnover by Teresa DiNanno would give the Hawks the energy to push on the offensive end, with Hanna Goodreau (North Reading, Mass.) getting one past Poly's keeper. She was assisted by Katrina Marten (Middlesex, N.Y.).

  • 'Wick would soon light up the scoreboard, with Maura Donoghue (Paramus N.J.) scoring her first goal of the contest, assisted again by Marten.

  • Within thirty seconds, both Kara Anderson (Collingwood, Ont.) and Vaccarelli would score their own unassisted goals off the draws.

  • A Poly timeout would do little for them, as a green card allowed Ashley Ament (Sayreville, N.J.) to score on the man-up opportunity, assisted by Lily Dempsey (Schenectady, N.Y.), who earned her second career assist.

  • Goodreau and Jammie Decker (Penn Yan, N.Y.) would bring in a goal a piece to end the first period.

  • Parker Laurin (Wilton, N.Y.) opened the second period up for the Hawks with a man-up goal, assisted by Vaccarelli after a Wildcats yellow card.

  • However, Hartwick's defense began to slip as multiple fouls were called on the Hawks, allowing SUNY Poly to slip two free position shots past Brooke Lynett (Acton, Mass.) and end Hartwick's unbroken goal streak.

  • The Hawks would shut SUNY Poly down for the rest of the period with Vaccarelli scoring two man-up goals, one of which was assisted by Marten.

  • Both Dempsey and Anderson would add to the scoreboard to close out the half, with Laurin snagging two assists.

  • Alexa Patrakis (Wilbraham, Mass.) would make her debut of the game in between the pipes going into the second half for the Hawks, though Poly would open with a goal.

  • 'Wick and Poly would go back and forth in scoring within the third period, with Decker snagging another goal before the Wildcats grab another.

  • Anderson would snap right back with yet another goal to make a hat trick, assisted by Marten, this one coming right off the draw control from Liebro.

  • The Wildcats, seemingly having regained some composure, would cut the deficit down to 8 with two more goals, one of them being man-up.

  • However, the Hawks would once again dominate the draw control circle, earning possession and allowing a man-up goal for Anderson, then an even-strength goal for Vaccarelli.

  • Marten would also earn a free-position goal and tally another assist on an Anderson goal to end the third.

  • Poly would open the fourth period with a green card, giving Vaccarelli a man-up goal opportunity, which she quickly capitalized on.

  • Despite Poly replying back with another goal of their own, both Lauren Bigwarfe (Potsdam, N.Y.) and Donoghue would earn free position goals.

  • After a Hartwick timeout, Vaccarelli would end the game with her sixth goal of the contest, solidifying a 22-7 Hartwick win.
