Hawks Stay Hot, Cool Off Red Dragons in 7-0 Triumph

ONEONTA, NY - Hartwick Women's Tennis continued their dominant season, delivering a clean sweep against their cross-town rivals, the Oneonta Red Dragons, to remain undefeated for the month. The Hawks showcased strength and depth across both doubles and singles, asserting control early and never letting up.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Hartwick took the short trip up the hill, competing in their final match of the spring before the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship First Round on May 9th.

  • Samantha Lantzy (Valatie, N.Y.) and Lily Vanuga (Springville, N.Y.) breezed through their match at No.3 doubles, not dropping a single game to their counterparts.

  • Alexandra Krasinska (Pine Island, N.Y.) and Phoebe Olson (Jamestown, N.Dak.) took care of business at No.1 doubles, defeating Haley Peck and Taylor Plue of Oneonta by a score of 6-2 to earn the doubles point for the Hawks.

  • The Hawks dominated doubles play, Ryann Ashby (Malta, N.Y.) and Gianna Leggieri (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) wrapped up the final match, cruising to a 6-0 victory at the No.2 spot to secure the doubles sweep.

  • Ashby kept her foot on the gas, taking down Kelly Hayes by a score of 6-1, 6-0 to begin singles play at the No.5 spot.

  • Lantzy made it three points in a row for the Royal Blue and White, commanding the first set 6-0. Sam Lantzy was faced with a bit of resistance in the second set at the No.3 spot but was able to handle Plue by a score of 6-3.

  • Gianna Leggieri brought the match home for the Hawks, clinching the fourth point at the No.6 spot. Leggieri continued her excellence at the six spot, defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-0 to improve her record to 6-0.

  • Coach Butcher's squad continued to overwhelm the Red Dragons as Krasinska breezed through her match at the No.1 spot, downing Danielle Copp in straight sets of 6-1.

  • Lily Vanuga improved to 7-0 at the No.4 spot, collecting the win with set scores of 6-1, 6-2.

  • Olson capped off the afternoon at No.2, starting off hot with a 6-0 first set and grinding through a tougher 7-5 second to complete the sweep.

 

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS

The Hawks will prepare for the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship, the selection show will be on May 5th and the first round will take place on May 9th at a location to be determined.
