WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
-
Hartwick prepared to wrap up their non-conference slate against the Mustangs, coming off a series split with Cobleskill in their last outing.
-
Brianna Blake (Mechanicville, NY) led off the top of the first inning, picking up a base knock to left field. Despite the leadoff hit, the Hawks offense struggled to figure out the Mustang starter throughout the course of the game.
-
The Mustangs got on the board early, pushing across three runs in the bottom half of the first, collecting four hits.
-
Samantha Moore (Mamaroneck, NY) began the fourth with a walk, the first base runner for the Hawks since the Blake single. Nadia Pascucci (Troy, NY) got the team back into the hit column with a single but runners were stranded on the corners to conclude the top half.
-
Morrisville struck for four runs off five hits in the bottom of the fourth to increase their lead to seven runs. Autumn Millington (Westmoreland, NY) roped a single down the right field line but the Hawks were unable to push a run across in the fifth.
-
Two Mustang triples in the bottom of the fifth put the game out of reach for the Hawks as Morrisville swiped Game One.
Â
GAME TWO
-
The Hawk bats came to life after a scoreless game one as Blake opened up the game with a single to center field. Jessica Betts (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) moved Blake into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt as the team looked to strike early.
-
Moore picked up a base hit through the middle, pushing Blake to third before a single from Anna Klein (Souderton, PA) brought Blake home for their first run of the game.
-
The Mustangs responded back with five runs of their own, building off of four hits and two errors as the Hawks were forced to play from behind again.
-
It was a silent second inning before the Hawks put up a four spot in the top of the third, efficiently picking up four runs on four hits. The Royal Blue and White opened with back to back doubles from Pascucci and Moore, Klein picked up another single before Lindsay Zgrodek (Glen Spey, NY) delivered a two run triple.
-
Zgrodek was able to score after Emily Holladay (Hancocks Bridge, N.J.) reached on an error by the Mustang second baseman, knotting the game up at five.
-
Morrisville's offense stayed hot, responding with three runs on three hits to swing back out in front of the Hawks after three innings.
-
Good pitching from the Mustangs allowed them to hold off any attempts of a comeback from the Hawks as the team was held hitless for the next three innings. Morrisville tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to close the door on Wick.
-
Hartwick would go down fighting, picking up two hits in the top of the seventh before being retired to close out the contest.
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
The Hawks will open up their Empire 8 conference slate with a home matchup against Nazareth University, squaring off against the Golden Flyers on Friday, April 4th at 4 & 6 PM.
