Hawks Fall to Defending Champion Cardinals in E8 Semifinal

PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The Hartwick Men's Lacrosse team headed to St. John Fisher for the semifinal round of the Empire 8 Championship Tournament, falling to the defending champion Cardinals on a rainy Thursday night.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Hartwick geared up for the semifinal round against the St. John Fisher Cardinals, coming off a thrilling home victory over SUNY Brockport in Tuesday's first round matchup.

  • The Cardinals, winners of the last five Empire 8 Championships, wasted no time swinging out in front, finding their first goal at the 13:37 mark.

  • Fisher would connect for seven goals before Tararihwakohe Lazore (Hogansburg, N.Y.) put the Hawks on the board, taking the pass from Garrett Frost (Wading River, N.Y.) and scoring near post with three minutes to go in the first.

  • St. John Fisher stretched their lead to nine goals before Frost fired in his first goal of the evening, Tyler Nocito (Mahopac, N.Y.) picked up the assist with 13:36 remaining.

  • The Cardinals continued to pad their lead, stringing together seven goals before Matthew Locasto (Floral Park, N.Y.) struck for a Hartwick goal to close out the scoring in the first half.

  • With the second half underway, the No.1 seed boasted their firepower, connecting for nine goals as the Hawks were held scoreless for the third quarter.

  • Colin August (Garrison, N.Y.) collected two goals in the fourth quarter, both off assists from Nocito as the Royal Blue and White were not willing to back down.

  • Garrett Frost connected for his 100th career goal with a missile from the right wing, capping off the scoring for the Hawks.

  • Tyler Nocito recorded a career high four assists in the effort.

  • Despite the late life from Wick, the Hawks were unable to overcome the deficit, falling to the defending champions in the semifinal round.
