HOW IT HAPPENED
Hartwick kicked off the 2025 campaign on a high note, defeating SUNY Delhi 3-1 in a rematch of last August's scoreless draw.
Delhi controlled the ball early, but the Hawks quickly settled in and went on the attack, registering early chances through first-year players Fischer Brogan (Ocean View, N.J.) and Mathieu Six, who each fired shots in the opening 15 minutes.
The breakthrough came in the 16th minute when Devin Chandler delivered a pinpoint cross into the box. Kwame Amissah-Arthur (Federal Way, Wash.) soared above the defense and buried a header past the keeper to give the Blue and White the 1-0 lead. Hartwick continued to apply pressure with two corners and additional shots, but the score remained 1-0 at the half.
Delhi responded after the break, pressing forward and testing Hartwick's back line. Making his first collegiate start in goal, Drew Cover (Fayetteville, Pa.) came up big early in the second half. However, a defensive lapse in the 69th minute allowed Delhi to capitalize and level the match at 1-1.
The Hawks regrouped quickly and regained control in the closing stretch. After withstanding a late Delhi push, Hartwick earned a corner in the 80th minute. Chandler once again showcased his precision, finding Six, who rose above the defense to head home his first collegiate goal for a 2-1 lead. The Blue and White sealed the win in the 89th minute as Wilson Mount added the third goal to close out a strong season-opening performance with Chandler collecting his third assist.
