HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hawks made quick work in doubles play, highlighted by reigning Empire 8 Doubles Team of the Week Maggie Van Valkenburgh (Highland, N.Y.) and Maddi Morrison (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) blanking their opponents 6-0 at No. 3. Lily Vanuga (Springville, N.Y.) and Samantha Lantzy (Valatie, N.Y.) clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 win at No. 2 before Phoebe Olson (Jamestown, N.Dak.) and Gianna Leggieri (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) added another 6-0 sweep at No. 1.

Singles action was just as one-sided, with Lantzy, Van Valkenburgh, and Morrison all posting perfect straight-set wins without dropping a game. Leggieri extended her singles winning streak to five matches with a 6-1, 6-0 decision, while Olson closed the day at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory to secure the sweep.

Hartwick improves to 5-0 with the win and will look to continue its strong run as conference play heats up.
