HOW IT HAPPENED
Skidmore came out of the gate hot to defend their home turf, scoring two goals off of the first two penalty corners of the game, though the Hawks were able to hold off 8 shots from the Thoroughbreds in the first quarter. Despite remaining on the defensive end of the field throughout most of the first, the second quarter saw the Hawks' first shot of the game from Makayla Bales (Sidney, N.Y.) as well as their first penalty corner taken by sophomore Molly Schoenfeldt (Vestal, N.Y.). Skidmore, however, would quickly take advantage of a penalty stroke opportunity to create a 3-0 lead going into the second half.
The third quarter would see another Skidmore goal– again off a penalty corner– while the Hawks still remained scoreless. Still, Reynolds was stellar in the cage, making back-to-back saves. By the fourth quarter, it seemed that the Hawks had finally entered a rhythm, able to push up on offense. With less than 8 minutes to go in the game, junior Dani Hand (Queensbury, N.Y.) was able to draw the foul for a penalty stroke, though the relief goalie for Skidmore would make the save to keep the Hawks at bay.
The highlight of the Hawks' day came with less than thirty seconds on the clock, with the Royal Blue and White capitalizing off a Skidmore foul to draw the corner. Hope Angioletti (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) would bury a shot in the back of the cage off an insert from Kayla Kinkel (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), who has now earned two assists in two games. Reynolds in goal would successfully shut out the Thoroughbreds in the fourth quarter to keep the score at 4-1 to end the game.
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
