HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hartwick men's soccer team squared off against nationally ranked No. 24 Oneonta in the latest edition of the Battle of the Hills, ultimately falling 6–1.

The Hawks came out with energy, generating early chances as Hunter Bulich (Catskill, N.Y.) fired the game's first shot inside the opening minute, followed by an Andres Ordonez Acosta attempt in the 12th minute that earned consecutive corners. Despite the strong start, Oneonta broke through in the 21st minute on a rebound goal off a set piece, then doubled their lead just before halftime with a shot into the left side of the net off a corner.

After the break, Hartwick pressed to cut into the deficit, but miscues led to a third Red Dragon tally in the 62nd minute. Oneonta added two more goals in quick succession, stretching the margin before Hartwick found their moment of brilliance in the 77th minute. Mariano Kool (Amsterdam, Netherlands) initiated a counterattack through the midfield, linking with Aggy Chaudhry, who set up Acosta for a highlight-reel volley to get the Hawks on the board. Oneonta tacked on a late goal from an indirect free kick to seal the result.

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS

The Hawks will look to defend home field against the Nazareth Golden Flyers on Friday, September 19th at 7PM.
