HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hartwick Women's Tennis team continues to dominate Empire 8 competition, turning in one of their most decisive performances of the season with a 7-0 sweep over Utica in which the Hawks did not drop a single game.

From the start, Hartwick made its intentions clear in doubles play. The pairing of Lily Vanuga (Springville, N.Y.) and Samantha Lantzy (Valatie, N.Y.) remained steady at No.2, notching their seventh win overall and pushing their spotless conference record to 4-0. At No.3, Maggie Van Valkenburgh (Highland, N.Y.) and Maddi Morrison (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) mirrored the effort with another 6-0 decision, also keeping their Empire 8 slate perfect. The top-flight duo of Phoebe Olson (Jamestown, N.Dak.) and Gianna Leggieri (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) capped off the sweep, dictating pace from the baseline in their own 6-0 victory to hand Hartwick full control heading into singles.

The Hawks quickly carried their momentum forward. Olson opened singles play at No.2 with the first flawless win of the afternoon, setting the tone for the remainder of the ladder. Leggieri followed at No.4, securing her seventh singles win to tie the team lead, while Lantzy continued to prove her consistency at the top-flight, cruising to another straight-set victory without surrendering a game.

At No.3, Van Valkenburgh collected her team-best seventh singles triumph to officially clinch the match, sealing the victory before the final two courts even concluded. Morrison (No.5) then added to the dominant showing with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 win, before Elise Beauharnois (Peru, N.Y.) closed out the day at No.6 with the final "bagel," securing Hartwick's rare perfect sweep across all courts.
