HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blue and White defended their home courts in dominant fashion on Friday afternoon, earning a 6–1 victory over SUNY Cortland to move to 2–0 on the season.

The doubles matches set the tone early for Hartwick. The dynamic duo of Samantha Lantzy (Valatie, N.Y.) and Lily Vanuga (Springville, N.Y.) made quick work of their opponents at No. 2 doubles, posting a flawless 6–0 win. At No. 3, Maddi Morrison (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and Maggie Van Valkenburgh (Highland, N.Y.) followed suit with a strong 6–2 victory to clinch the doubles point for the Hawks.

Gianna Leggieri (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) and Phoebe Olson added to the momentum at No. 1 doubles, defeating Cortland's Massoni and Schulz, 6–2, to complete the sweep in pairs play.

Olson carried that energy into singles action, making a statement in her return to the top of the lineup with a commanding 6–0, 6–2 win over Massoni at No. 1 singles. Morrison extended the lead to 3–0 with a convincing 6–1, 6–2 performance at No. 5.

Cortland picked up its lone point of the day shortly after, but Van Valkenburgh got Hartwick right back on track, earning a 6–1, 6–3 win at No. 3 singles. Elise Beauharnois (Peru, N.Y.) sealed the match with her first collegiate singles victory—a gritty three-set battle at the No. 6 spot against Cortland's Adams.

Leggieri closed out the afternoon for the Hawks with a hard-fought straight-set win over Repass, solidifying the 6–1 final score.
