ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hartwick Men's swimming and diving team collected several first-place finishes in its first meet after the break, topping Union and pushing Springfield to the wire on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hartwick men's swimming and diving team hosted Union and Springfield for its first meet following the break, looking to stay on track against stiff competition. The afternoon opened with the 200-yard medley relay, where the Blue and White placed third as the quartet of Keegan Burkhardt (West Hurley, NY), Karim Mohamed (New Hartford, N.Y.), Conor Barry (Clifton Park, NY), and Badr Aly (East Syracuse, NY) touched in at 1:42.41, just two seconds off Springfield's winning time.
Cameron Drake (El Cajon, Cal.) got Hartwick rolling with a first-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle, winning the event in 10:06.00. Hassan Abdelwahed (New Hartford, N.Y.) followed by putting the 100-yard breaststroke in the Hawks' favor, claiming the top spot with a time of 59.30 seconds. Bryce Rogers (Fulton, N.Y.) made it two straight wins for Hartwick, capturing first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:59.76.
Rogers continued his strong day in the pool by taking first place in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 48.88 seconds. After a win by Union in the following event, Drake capped off his afternoon with another victory, finishing first in the 500-yard freestyle at 4:54.97.
Hartwick closed the meet with a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as Drake, Rogers, Abdelwahed, and Mahdi Behniaye (Hannibal, Mo.) combined for a time of 3:17.81, narrowly trailing Springfield by just one second.
The Hawks split the afternoon, earning a 181–113 victory over Union while falling to Springfield by a slim 155–145 margin.
