ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hartwick Men's Swimming and Diving team recognized their three seniors before matching up with the Saxons in a conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at Moyer Pool.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hartwick Hawks honored their three seniors, Topher Fitzpatrick (Massapequa, N.Y.), Owen James (St. Lutz, Fla.) and Lane Rawls (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) prior to the meet, recognizing their impact as part of the program's 50th anniversary celebration.
Alfred jumped out to an early advantage, capturing the opening four events before Hassan Abdelwahed (New Hartford, N.Y.) answered for the Blue and White with a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 58.97 seconds. Abdelwahed nearly doubled up with another strong showing in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing just .06 seconds shy of first place.
Bryce Rogers (Fulton, N.Y.) delivered a strong performance in a tightly contested 100-yard freestyle, placing third in a race that saw the top three swimmers finish within fractions of a second. Rogers clocked in at 49.64, just behind Alfred's top two times of 49.35 and 49.47. Keegan Burkhardt (West Hurley, N.Y.) added a second-place finish for Hartwick in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:11.54, though the Saxons maintained their overall lead.
Despite several close finishes that went Alfred's way down the stretch, the Hawks closed the meet on a high note by capturing the final event of the day. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Badr Aly (East Syracuse, NY), Conor Barry (Clifton Park, NY), Abdelwahed and Rogers posted a winning time of 1:30.35, topping the Saxons by two seconds to cap off the Senior Day competition.
