Hawks Roll Past Saints in Road Dual Meet

CANTON, N.Y. – The Hartwick Women's Swimming and Diving team continues to roll, taking down the St. Lawrence Saints on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference dual meet.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Blue and White surged out of the gates, edging St. Lawrence by one second in the opening 200-yard medley relay as Cassidy Payrot (Cicero, NY), Min-Syun Chen (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Aubrey Vaile (Wesley Chapel, Fla.), and Cate Russo (San Pedro, Cal.) combined for a winning time of 1:57.59.

After the Saints claimed the first individual event, Kate Gucciardi (Cicero, N.Y.) responded by capturing the 200-yard freestyle, touching first in 2:10.93 to earn the Hawks their first individual victory of the afternoon. The back-and-forth battle continued as St. Lawrence took the next event before Chen answered for Hartwick with a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking a 1:11.35.

Following a narrow one-second setback in the 200-yard butterfly, Vaile quickly countered with a 26.41 performance in the 50-yard freestyle to secure valuable points for the Hawks. Annabelle Lindsay (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) delivered a dominant showing on the diving boards, sweeping both events with a score of 225.45 in the one-meter and 249.23 in the three-meter.

Anna Bischoff (Oneonta, N.Y.) added to the Hawk momentum by winning the 100-yard freestyle in 58.69 seconds. Chen continued her strong day by completing the breaststroke sweep, claiming the 200-yard event with a time of 2:36.27. Vaile kept Hartwick rolling with a victory in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 1:04.12.

Although the Saints captured the final individual event, the Hawks closed the meet in emphatic fashion, sealing the victory with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Bischoff, Gucciardi, Vaile, and Russo posted the only sub-four-minute time of the race, touching in at 3:59.68 to secure a 188-111 triumph for the red-hot Blue and White.
