Women's Tennis Season Concludes in Empire 8 Quarterfinals

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hartwick College women's tennis team saw its season come to a close Tuesday afternoon, falling to Alfred University by a 4-3 score in the Empire 8 Women's Tennis Championship quarterfinals at Wilber Park Tennis Courts.

The Hawks battled throughout the afternoon, falling in doubles action and splitting the six singles matches, as the Saxons secured the deciding points to advance to the Empire 8 semifinals.

In doubles, Hartwick claimed the opening match at No. 1 doubles, as the pairing of senior Samantha Lantzy (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) and junior Tehani Courte (Noumea, South Province/UCO) earned a 6-3 victory. Alfred answered with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take a 1-0 advantage into singles play. The No. 2 pairing of seniors Gianna Leggieri (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and Autumn Millington (Rome, N.Y./Westmoreland) fell in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-1), while Elise Beauharnois (Peru, N.Y./Peru) and Sasha Garcia (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo South) dropped their match 7-5 at No. 3.

In singles play, Garcia fell to Camryn Moore 6-2, 6-3, giving the Saxons a 2-0 lead. Lantzy delivered a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles, defeating Alyssa Seegert 6-1, 6-2. Leggieri added another point for the Hawks at No. 3 singles, cruising to a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Elizabeth Madsen. Courte followed with a hard-fought three-set win at No. 2, rallying past Becca Epping 5-7, 6-4, 6-1, giving the Hawks a 3-2 advantage as they looked to secure one more win to advance to the semifinals.

Alfred secured the remaining three singles matches to clinch the quarterfinal. Millington pushed her opponent to three sets at No. 5 singles, dropping a 2-6, 7-5, 7-5 decision to Alexis Gits, setting up the final, dramatic match at No. 4 singles. Beauharnois battled back to force a third set against Allison Windisch before falling in a tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-2, 6-7 (8-10).

The loss concludes the Hawks' 2026 fall season following a competitive campaign in Empire 8 play.
