Hartwick opened the scoring at 8:46 in the first quarter when Kinkel finished a play set up by Angioletti. Angioletti sent a long pass up to Kinkel in the shooting circle, where the senior forward was all alone just in front of the cage for a one-on-one with Cortland's goalkeeper. With the goalie on her back, Kinkel was able to spin to her left and put the ball just past the goalkeeper's outstretched left leg for her fifth goal of the season.
The Hawks carried the 1-0 lead into halftime before Cortland's Tori Peterson tied the game just 33 seconds into the third quarter off an assist from Olivia Specht. Neither team found the back of the cage in the fourth quarter, sending the game to overtime. Despite the big advantage in shots throughout the game, the Hawks put up an excellent attack in the fourth quarter, earning four of their five corners as they had several opportunities to take the lead in regulation.
Reynolds made two saves in the extra period, but Peterson once again scored, this time at 61:07, to give Cortland the 2-1 victory.
