HOW IT HAPPENED
Farmingdale wasted no time grabbing control, striking twice in the opening two minutes. The Hawks responded on the man-up as Spencer Hogaboom (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) found Colin August (Garrison, N.Y.) for Hartwick's first goal of the afternoon.
The Rams regained a two-goal cushion before August tallied his second of the day to keep the Blue and White within striking distance. After Farmingdale converted on a man-up opportunity midway through the quarter, Matthew Paquette (Newton, Mass.) cut the deficit to one off a feed from Liam McManus (Skillman, N.J.) with 3:35 remaining in the first.
Farmingdale closed the opening frame with a pair of goals, but August completed his first-quarter hat trick on his second man-up score, courtesy of Paquette, sending Hartwick into the second trailing by two.
The Rams opened the second-quarter scoring before August continued his standout afternoon with his fourth goal, assisted by Hogaboom. Farmingdale seized momentum from there, holding Hartwick scoreless during a three-goal run to build separation. Mason Adams (Delmar, N.Y.) connected with August for his fifth goal late in the half, trimming the deficit to four at the break.
Coming out of halftime, the Rams extended their lead with three of the first four goals of the third quarter. McManus buried his first of the day at the 3:18 mark, but Farmingdale answered to carry a seven-goal advantage into the final frame.
The fourth quarter featured a flurry of offense, with nine combined goals between the teams. McManus opened the scoring with his second tally, assisted by Hogaboom, before the Rams answered with back-to-back strikes. Hartwick responded with consecutive goals from August and McManus, the latter securing his hat trick off Paquette's third assist of the afternoon.
Farmingdale added two more late goals to keep the Hawks at bay. August capped off a career-best performance with his seventh goal of the contest, again set up by Paquette, and added a late man-up tally. Despite the late surge, the Rams' earlier runs proved too much to overcome.
August finished with a career-high seven goals to lead the Hawks, while McManus recorded a hat trick. Paquette dished out a career-best three assists in the setback.
