HOW IT HAPPENED
Hartwick geared up for an early morning matchup against the Devils in their first contest since capturing the 2025-26 Empire 8 Championship this past fall.
Maggie Van Valkenburgh (Highland, N.Y.) and Maddi Morrison (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) set the tone at No. 2 doubles, defeating their opponents in a 6-0 sweep. Elise Beauharnois (Peru, N.Y.) and Jillian Ferrie (Middle Grove, N.Y.) followed with a sweep of their own to clinch the doubles point for the Hawks. Samantha Lantzy (Valatie, N.Y.) and Gianna Leggieri (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) closed out doubles play with a 6-1 victory at the top spot.
Van Valkenburgh carried that momentum into singles play, earning a straight-set victory at No. 2 to begin the singles slate. Leggieri extended the Hawks' lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 before Morrison secured the match with a sweep at No. 4 singles.
Hartwick remained dominant through the remainder of the lineup, not dropping another game as Beauharnois, Ferrie, and Lantzy each cruised to straight-set victories, completing the sweep and giving the Hawks early momentum before heading to face TCNJ later in the afternoon.
With the victory over the Devils, Head Coach Mario Hernandez earned the first win of his coaching career.
