HOW IT HAPPENED
Hartwick faced a tough non-conference midweek test, taking on the Hamilton Continentals of the nationally recognized NESCAC as they looked to build momentum heading into Empire 8 play.
Hamilton controlled the opening face-off and set the tone early, scoring six unanswered goals before Colin August (Garrison, N.Y.) stopped the run. Liam McManus (Skillman, N.J.) found a cutting August for the Hawks' first tally at the 5:15 mark, but the Continentals added one more in the final seconds of the quarter.
Hamilton opened the second quarter with another goal before McManus responded quickly with his first of the day. The Continentals then strung together three more scores to push into double digits before halftime. Steve Grossman (Magnolia, Del.) connected with Ty Crowley (Wallkill, N.Y.), who finished on the run with four minutes remaining to cap Hartwick's first-half scoring.
Matthew Paquette (Newton, Mass.) opened the second half with an unassisted goal, and Mason Adams (Delmar, N.Y.) later set up August for his second of the game to round out the Hawks' offensive output against a tough Hamilton defense. Hartwick ultimately struggled to match the Continentals' high-paced attack, falling in its final non-conference contest.
August led the way with two goals, while Paquette, McManus, and Crowley each added one. Crowley also paced the Hawks with four ground balls, followed by Owen Ryan (Bethel, CT) with three. In goal, AJ Saragossi (Levittown, N.Y.) recorded 16 saves, while Kaiden Johnson (Wakefield, Mass.) added 12 stops in relief.
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
