HOW IT HAPPENED
Hartwick continued its Empire 8 slate against a familiar Brockport squad that the Hawks defeated twice last season, including an 11-9 road win and a thrilling 12-11 victory in the Empire 8 Championship quarterfinals.

Brockport controlled the opening faceoff and generated the game's first scoring chance, but Kaiden Johnson (Wakefield, Mass.) made an early save to keep the contest scoreless. Hartwick's first shot rang off the post, but the Hawks capitalized on their next opportunity as Matthew Paquette (Newton, Mass.) found the back of the net off a feed from Liam McManus (Skillman, N.J.) to open the scoring. Brockport responded with a man-up goal and added another to take a 2-1 lead after the first quarter.

Spencer Hogaboom (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) evened the score early in the second quarter with a powerful strike. The Golden Eagles answered with two straight goals before Hogaboom netted his second of the day, finishing another setup from McManus to force a Brockport timeout. Steve Grossman (Magnolia, Del.) tied the game at four with a behind-the-back finish off a pass from Ryan Nevins (Warwick, N.Y.). Colin August (Garrison, N.Y.), despite heavy defensive pressure, broke through late in the half to give Hartwick a 5-4 lead, with Ty Crowley (Wallkill, N.Y.) earning the assist after a strong individual effort.

Leading 5-4 entering the third quarter, Hartwick surrendered a man-up goal following a penalty, and Brockport regained the lead at the 11:24 mark. Colby Simonetti (Pittsford, N.Y.) answered for the Hawks, finishing a feed from Mason Adams (Delmar, N.Y.) to tie the game once again. August then gave Hartwick a 7-6 advantage with a man-up goal, but Brockport responded with back-to-back scores to take an 8-7 lead into the final quarter.

The Golden Eagles carried that momentum into the fourth, scoring twice in the opening minutes. Hartwick generated several chances down the stretch but was unable to convert, going scoreless in the final period as Brockport secured the 10-7 victory.
