HOW IT HAPPENED
Hartwick wasted no time setting the tone, striking just 35 seconds into the contest. Jackie Owens (Poughquag, NY) opened the scoring off a feed from Adelyn Esce (Cicero, NY), sparking a relentless offensive surge.
Maura Donoghue (Paramus, N.J.) followed with a woman-up goal, assisted by Shea Holloway (Fort Johnson, NY), before Owens netted her second of the game. Parker Laurin (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Lily Dempsey (Glenville, N.Y.) each added their first goals as the Hawks continued to pile on.
Esce turned in a standout first quarter, totaling three goals and three assists as Hartwick exploded for nine goals in the opening frame.
Jammie Decker (Penn Yan, N.Y.) opened second-quarter scoring with her first goal after securing four draw controls in the first. Esce remained a driving force, converting another Owens assist before Elmira recorded its first shot, which was turned away by goalkeeper Brooke Lynett (Acton, Mass.).
Dempsey facilitated the offense with back-to-back assists, setting up additional goals from Owens and Donoghue. Owens secured her first collegiate hat trick before halftime. Tabby Coombs (Cicero, NY) highlighted the transition game with a coast-to-coast effort, finding Esce to cap the first-half scoring.
Ashley Ament (Sayreville, N.J.) accounted for both Hartwick goals in the third quarter, with assists from Esce and Laurin. Alexa Patrakis (Wilbraham, Mass.) helped maintain a shutout during her stint in goal, holding Elmira scoreless for over 20 minutes.
Kamryn Hebert (Upper Marlboro, MD) made her collegiate debut in net to start the fourth quarter. Abby Skurka (Cumberland, RI) added a goal, assisted by Dempsey, before Elmira broke through with its lone tally midway through the period. Dempsey answered with the game's final goal to cap the scoring.
Defensively, Gabby Fitzgerald (Bellmore, NY) led the way with four caused turnovers and three ground balls, while Regan Kelly (Warwick, N.Y.) collected a game-high five ground balls.
