HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawks faced a tough test against the nationally ranked Cardinals, who entered the contest ranked No. 14 in the nation and peaked at No. 9 earlier this season. St. John Fisher opened with two early goals before Empire 8 Co-Offensive Player of the Week Colin August got Hartwick on the board, finishing a feed from Troy Madden (Williston Park, N.Y.).
The visiting Cardinals responded with a 14-goal run before Harry Rubin (Portland, Me.) halted the stretch in the second quarter with 7:26 remaining. Rubin capitalized in transition after Henry Tobin (Merrimack, NH) found the junior midfielder following a successful clearance. Just 26 seconds later, Spencer Hogaboom (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) added another, finishing off an assist from Liam McManus (Skillman, N.J.).
McManus recorded Hartwick's lone goal of the third quarter on an unassisted effort, but St. John Fisher continued to extend its lead. The Hawks added three goals in the fourth quarter, beginning with August's second of the day with 11 minutes remaining, assisted by Ty Crowley (Wallkill, N.Y.). Crowley followed with an unassisted tally before Madden connected with August once again, as the senior attack completed his 12th hat trick of the season. Hartwick was unable to close the gap, as the Cardinals secured the win to wrap up the regular season.

Hartwick will host the No.5 seeded Utica Pioneers in the Empire 8 Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament on Tuesday, April 28th at 4pm at Wright Stadium.
