ONEONTA, N.Y.- The Hartwick Hawks' Flag Football program hauled in six Empire 8 All-Conference selections during its inaugural season, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday morning.
The Blue and White placed six student-athletes on the All-Conference teams, trailing only regular season champion SUNY Geneseo, which led the way with seven honorees. Senior captain Ellie Kalbach (Spring City, Pa.) and first-year standout Ziyon Harrison (Clay, NY) earned First Team Defense honors, while Audra Doll (Greene, NY) added a Second Team selection at linebacker.
Hartwick was also well represented on the Second Team Offense, landing three Hawks on the list, headlined by first-year quarterback Audra Doll. Bailey McCoy (Otego, N.Y.) and Anne Stanavich (Amsterdam, NY) earned Second Team honors for their roles in the receiving corps, serving as consistent threats who sparked the Hartwick offense both on the ground and through the air.
Kalbach was a steady force for the defensive unit, piling up an impressive 100 flag pulls on the year. Stanavich ranked second on the team with 58 stops. The senior captain also disrupted passing lanes, finishing second on the team with 10 pass breakups while adding an interception. Harrison proved to be a constant presence in the backfield, totaling 54 flag pulls, including 13 for loss, while racking up 10 sacks on the season. The first-year also recorded an interception and two pass breakups.
Doll made the most of her time on the defensive side of the ball, adding 28 stops and two tackles for loss. She also broke up five passes and recorded two interceptions. Offensively, the first-year put the league on notice with her dynamic play, rushing for 1,465 yards and 10 touchdowns while averaging 133 yards per game. The Greene native also completed 100 passes for 1,194 yards and 16 touchdowns, averaging 108 passing yards per contest.
McCoy led the receiving corps with 472 yards on 33 catches, using her speed to create separation and extra yardage. The sophomore hauled in five touchdown receptions while adding 113 rushing yards. Stanavich recorded 18 receptions for 194 yards and a team-high six touchdown catches, emerging as a reliable red-zone target. She also contributed on the ground with 56 carries for 379 yards and four additional scores.
The Hawks enjoyed a strong inaugural campaign, finishing with four wins, including three in conference play, and punching their ticket to the inaugural Empire 8 Championship Tournament. The Blue and White earned their first program victory on Tuesday, March 24, defeating Elmira, 26-18, before later making their first-ever playoff appearance against the eventual inaugural champions, SUNY Brockport on Tuesday, April 21.
In addition to the all-conference honors, senior center Brooke Sands (Antwerp, NY) was selected as the team representative for the Empire 8 Tomorrow's Leaders Team. This team honors a student-athlete who has emerged as a leader not only on the field of play, but in the classroom and in the community. In addition, they "compete with honor and integrity" and have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.
