Rochester, NY – The Hawks made their way up north for the weekend for some Empire 8 conference action, dropping their first games of the weekend to Nazareth.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)
In their first game of the day, Hartwick jumped ahead in the first inning with
Madi Hoerman (Portage, MI) leading off with a single and stealing second.
Ashlee Stevens (Knox, NY) added a hit in the inning, while
Samantha Moore (Mamaroneck, NY) reached on an error to bring in the first run.
Shannon Mentz (Binghamton, NY) followed with a sacrifice fly, giving the Hawks two runs on two hits and a 2-0 lead.
Nazareth responded in the bottom half with a run on two hits, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Nazareth evened the game in the second with a solo home run.
Hartwick regained the lead in the third, taking advantage of two Nazareth errors and a pair of walks from
Alicea Seitzinger (Bridgeton, NJ) and Moore. Hoerman scored her second run of the game, Seitzinger following behind her for the Hawks to push ahead 4-2.
The bottom of the third inning proved to be the difference, as Nazareth erupted for 10 runs on 8 hits, two of which being home runs. Hartwick was unable to answer down the stretch, going hitless over the final two innings with three more strikeouts. The Hawks finished with two hits, four runs, two walks, and seven strikeouts in the 12-4 loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2)
For the second game, Hartwick threatened early in the first as Hoerman worked a leadoff walk, moving all the way to third alongside a stolen base by Stevens. The Hawks were unable to capitalize, however, leaving a runner stranded.
Nazareth took control in the bottom half, tallying three runs on five hits, highlighted by a two-run homer and a sacrifice fly to bring the score 3-0.
Hartwick struggled to find momentum in the second and third, going down in order in both frames. Nazareth added on in the second with an RBI single, extending their lead 4-0.
Hartwick picked up their first hit in the fourth off the bat of
Alicea Seitzinger but were unable to string a run together. In the bottom half, Nazareth scored five runs on four hits, bringing the score to 9-0. Hartwick managed one more hit in the fifth from
Jaidan Beak (Mattawan, MI), finishing the game with two hits total.
