ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Men's Soccer saw a hard-fought contest slip away in the final seconds, falling narrowly to a 2-1 decision.
The Hawks and Golden Flyers played to a scoreless draw through the opening half to begin the match. Hartwick goalkeeper,
Nils Ole Petersen (Greiz, Germany) kept Nazareth off of the scoreboard with five saves in the first, while the Hawks recorded four shots of their own.
Hartwick continued to battle early in the second half, with
Wilson Mount (Atlanta, Ga.) forcing a 56
th minute save. Petersen added two more saves to keep the game level before the Hawks finally broke through. In the 69
th minute,
Devin Chandler (Wylie, Tx.) put Hartwick on the board, scoring his third goal of the season to give the Hawks a 1-0 advantage.
Nazareth responded only 17 seconds later, drawing the game at 1-1.
With the clock winding down, Hartwick continued to look for the go-ahead goal.
Kayden Zachgo (Warwick, N.Y.) sent a shot wide in the 88
th minute before Mount had another opportunity with just 22 seconds remaining.
In the last second of the match, Nazareth found the back of the net as the clock struck the 90
th minute - The Golden Flyers jumping ahead 2-1 by a millisecond.
Petersen finished the afternoon with seven saves, including five in the opening half. Hartwick recorded eight shots, with three put on frame.
