ONEONTA, NY – Men's Soccer battled back from an early deficit in their last Mayor's Cup match of the weekend, facing the Hood College Blazers in a 3-1 loss.
Hartwick attacked early, earning three corner kicks and putting four shots toward the Hood goal in the opening eight minutes.
Wilson Mount (Atlanta, Ga.) forced a save in the seventh minute, while
Andres Ordonez Acosta (Estado de Mexico, Mexico) and Muhammed Traore (Manchester, N.H.) also recorded early attempts to get Wick on the board.
Hood opened the scoring in the 33
rd minute, finding the back of the net off of an assist. Hartwick continued to apply pressure,
Devin Chandler (Wylie, Tx.) firing a pair of shots late in the half. The Hawks finally broke through with just ten seconds remaining before halftime, with Chandler scoring to even things out 1-1.
Hartwick continued to create opportunities early in the second half, with
Fischer Brogan (Ocean View, N.J.) putting up a shot and
Devin Ryan (Tinton Falls, N.J.) forcing a save from the Blazer goalie. Hood regained the lead in the 59
th minute after converting a penalty kick.
The Hawks' comeback attempt grew increasingly difficult in the bottom frame after a red card forced them to play man-down for the duration of what remained. Hood added another goal moments later, scoring to make it 3-1.
Freshman goalie
Jake Bernier (Gettysburg, Pa.) kept the Hawks within reach, making three saves on the afternoon. Chandler led the Hawks offensively with one goal on three shots, contributing to the team total of 12 shots and five corners in the contest.
