Tom Hartnett was introduced as the new head men’s and women’s cross country coach at Hartwick College on June 16, 2017. He also has coached the Hawks' indoor and outdoor track and field programs since the fall of 2018. Hartnett is in charge of all phases of the six programs.

Hartnett served as the head men’s and women’s cross country and track and field coach at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Services for five years prior to his arrival at 'Wick.
           
While at ACPHS, Hartnett led his women’s cross country program to a pair of Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) championships in 2014 and 2016. The team also posted a 3rd place finish in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championships in 2016.
           
Hartnett, a two-time HVIAC Coach of the Year, helped develop seven USCAA Cross Country All-Americans, six USCAA Track and Field national champions, 25 HVIAC All-Conference members, and five HVIAC Cross Country champions in his five seasons at ACPHS. In addition, his athletes were named USCAA Academic All-Americans 77 times and HVIAC All-Academic Team members on 32 separate occasions.
           
As an undergraduate, Hartnett competed in both cross country and track and field at the Division I level at Siena College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in History. He attained a master’s degree in the same disciple from Union College.
           
Hartnett has a United States Track and Field Association Level One Coaches’ Certification, a U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Track and Field Technical Certification, and is American Red Cross CPR/AED certified.
