Ryan Castle is in his third year as the assistant coach of Hartwick College's Division I women's water polo program.
Castle has an extensive coaching background at the club, high school, college, and international level.
In the summer of 2011, he coached the Kazakhstan Women's National Water Polo team to 13th place at the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China which tied for their fourth-highest finish in the country's history.
A native of Cape Town, South Africa, Castle spent the last three seasons working to elevate the Sun Devil water polo programs. In 2008, he helped guide the ASU women's varsity team to a school-record 21 wins and its highest national ranking (#4) in program history. Castle also piloted the Sun Devil men's club team to a third-place finish at the National Collegiate Club Championships in the same calendar year.
Castle has served as the head coach of Sun Devil Water Polo Club (2007-10), South Irvine Water Polo Club (2006-07), and Great Aquatics Team of Orange (2006) in the last five years. Over the same span, he has coached the United States Water Polo Olympic Development Mountain Zone Junior Women's Team.
In South Africa, Castle was an assistant coach with the South African Senior National Team from 2003 to 2005, while also serving as the head coach of the National 'B' Team in 2004. In 2003, he was selected as the coach of the South African Youth National team as well as the Western Province senior provincial women's team head coach in 2003 and the men's team in 2004.
Castle began coaching at Wynberg Boy's High School in Cape Town for five years before taking over at Reddam House College in 2002. Between 2001 and 2005, he served as the provincial age group boys' and girls' teams coach for the Western Province while coaching Silvertree Water Polo Club (2001-05) and Stingrays Water Polo Club (2004-05).
Castle earned a bachelor's degree in Information Systems in 2001 and a post graduate Credential in Education in 2003 from the University of Cape Town.
