Caleb Philips was hired as the Assistant Director of Athletics for External Relations in September of 2026.Philips will lead the communication efforts for Hartwick Athletics and serve on the administrative team alongside the Executive Director of Athletics and Associate Athletic Director.

Philips comes to Hartwick after a year at Alverno College, an NCAA Division III institution in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as well as a successful three-plus years at Plattsburgh State in upstate New York. At Alverno, Philips helped bring much needed coverage to the department as they went through major transitions, including moving to the Coast-to-Coast Conference along with the addition of two sports, and also conducted social media campaigns to help celebrate the school's 25th anniversary of athletics and a new class of Hall of Fame inductees. He also helped the department switch over to Hudl and Production Truck as their main streaming partner heading into the 2026-27 academic year. 

At Plattsburgh State, Philips served first as the Athletic Communications Assistant from March 2022 to August 2023 at Plattsburgh State before being promoted to the Director of Athletic Communications in August 2023, a role he served in until June 2025. He led the publication efforts for the school's 18 varsity sports, helping cover three conference champion hockey teams and numerous All-Conference honorees. During his time there, Philips transformed the social media coverage of the athletics accounts, taking over all social media duties upon arrival and charting record growth in his first year, as well as standardizing media days. He also helped lead the transition from Boxcast to Production Truck and Hudl for the Plattsburgh streaming efforts, helping to elevate the broadcasts throughout all of their home events.
 
In December of 2024, Philips was honored as one of the inaugural members of the Division III Athletic Communicators Emerging Elite Program with 29 other individuals from around the country. He was also named the 2024-25 D3SIDA Region 1 Communicator of the Year in August of 2025, an award that is nominated and selected by fellow Division III Athletic Communicators.
 
Philips got his start in athletic communications at Susquehanna University in August of 2021, but was no stranger to Division III athletics before then, having been a four-year member of the baseball team at Houghton College, a fellow Empire 8 school of Hartwick. At the conclusion of his career, he set program records in career saves, single-season saves, single-season games pitched, and career games pitched. In 2019, he was named to the Empire 8 All-Conference First Team as a utility player. 
 
Philips earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communication, with Minors in Business & Writing from Houghton in 2020 and also earned his Master of Arts in Professional Communication from Youngstown State University in 2021.
