Mickaela Buzzy is entering her second year as a member of the Hartwick College Sports Medicine staff. A proud graduate of Empire 8 member Russell Sage College, she earned both her Bachelor of Health Science and Master of Science in Occupational Therapy. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy at Binghamton University, where her capstone research focuses on the mental health, identity, and occupational challenges faced by student-athletes recovering from season-ending injuries.
Buzzy was a five-year member of the Russell Sage women’s soccer team, competing as a goalkeeper. Despite sustaining two season-ending injuries during her sophomore and graduate seasons, she built an impressive collegiate career. She ranks fifth all-time in goals-against average (1.42), sixth in total minutes played (2,540), eighth in career saves (176), and fifth in career shutouts (8). She also holds the second-highest single-game saves record in program history with 19 saves against nationally ranked Hamilton College, and later recorded 16 saves against Nazareth in 2022. In her final season, she posted a .847 save percentage, the best in the Empire 8 in 2022, and was named to the 2022 Academic All-District Team.
At Hartwick, Buzzy collaborates with athletic trainers and team physicians to deliver comprehensive rehabilitation that addresses both physical recovery and the restoration of daily routines, roles, and mental well-being. In 2024, she helped launch the SOAR app on campus, a mental health support tool aimed at increasing access to resources, crisis support, and performance strategies for Hartwick athletes.
A native of Oneonta, Buzzy is proud to work alongside her mother, Head Athletic Trainer Heidi Hofbauer-Buzzy. Outside of her clinical role, she enjoys running, yoga, strength training, and developing athlete wellness resources that bridge the gap between sports medicine and occupational therapy.
