ONEONTA, NY - Hartwick volleyball closed out its season on Saturday with a split with Elmira and Cobleskill in a tri-match at Lambros Arena. The Hawks were beaten in three sets to the Soaring Eagles but won a marathon five-set contest over Cobleskill.
EC took the first match over the Hawks 25-17, 25-14, 25-13. 'Wick was led offensively by freshman Chelsea Jordan (Cobleskill, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) and sophomore Courtney Desmond (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Hendrick Hudson) who each recorded seven kills. Brianna Eckert (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) led the Hawks in digs with 13.
Hartwick jumped out to a two sets to zero lead on the Fighting Tigers in the team's second match. 'Wick won the first two sets by scores of 27-25 and 25-19 and it appeared the Hawks would cruise to a three-set win. Cobleskill had other ideas as it won sets three and four narrowly, 25-23 and 25-22. The Hawks rolled in the final set, 15-7, to take the match in five and get their 10th victory of the year.
Desmond earned 18 kills for the Blue and White to pace the squad. She added 27 assists and a team-best six blocks. Senior Darcy Dolge (La Grande, OR/La Grande), playing in her final career match, accumulated 12 kills, 27 assists and six digs. Lauren Mausert (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) registered the team's third double-double of the match with 11 kills and a match-high 14 digs. Eckert and Tori Beck (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) each had 13 digs. Senior Cassie Dresser (Ovid, NY/South Seneca) notched nine kills and four blocks in her final Hartwick contest.
Cobleskill was led by Abigail Vanderveen's 14 kills and nine blocks. Samantha Burkart earned 25 assists and Margaret Trombly, Andrianna Lyons, and Krista Grady combined for 37 digs.
