Women's Soccer Team Blanked by Union

SCHENECTADY, NY -- The Union College women's soccer team had six players contribute goals with forward Jessica Strang (Rotterdam, NY/Schalmont) leading the way with three in an 8-0 win over Hartwick on Tuesday evening. The victory was the fourth consecutive for the Dutchwomen, who entered the match ranked 7th in the latest NSCAA regional poll. With the loss, the Hawks drop to 3-6.

Strang scored the first three goals of the game -- all assisted by junior forward Katie McLean (Newton, MA). Strang opened the scoring 6:15 into the game, and despite an 11-1 shot advantage for the Dutchwomen, the Hawks only trailed by a goal at halftime.

Just 1:21 into the second half, however, Strang would tally Union's second goal to increase the advantage and the sophomore would complete the hat-trick 14 minutes later to trigger a six-goal scoring spree for the Dutchwomen over the next 28 minutes. Senior midfielder Katie Brown (Madison, CT) sent in a header off a cross less than two minutes after Strang's final goal. Allie Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA) then scored at the 66:24 mark for the third Union goal in a 6:19 span.

Junior midfielder Caitlin O'Donnell (Hampden, MA) and senior midfielder Rachel Schneidman (Chappaqua, NY) each scored on direct kicks at 77:00 and 88:15, respectively. And sophomore forward Taylor LaBrecque (Falmouth, ME) netted her first goal of the year in the 85th minute.

Abby Stohler (West Hartford, CT) and freshman Kayla Marti (Newburgh, NY) each made one save while sharing the shutout.

Hartwick's Kelly Griffin (Wynantskill, NY/Columbia) made two saves for the Hawks, while junior midfielder Katelyn Bosy (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) led her team with two shots. The Hawks are back in action on Saturday at Elmore Field.

Hartwick is 2-1 in the Empire 8 and look for win number three against Elmira at 4 p.m. The Dutchwomen return home on Friday at 4 p.m. for a Liberty League battle against RPI.
