ROCHESTER, NY - After 15 events, the Hartwick men's swimming and diving team slipped one spot to 3rd from yesterday while the women jumped up one spot to 4th at the RIT Don Richards Invitational on Saturday. With one day of competition left tomorrow, the 'Wick men have accumulated 495.5 points and trail second-place Alfred by just 14 points. The Hawk women have earned 366.5 points.
Hartwick sophomore Michael Phillips (Austin, TX) led the men's team with two first-place efforts today. He notched the top spot in the 200 breaststroke event in 2:09.67 and earned top honors in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:44.48. Both times were pool records. Phillips also teamed up with freshman Kenny Kleso (Milford, PA), junior Eric Goble (Bellefontaine, OH), and freshman Chris Willcox (Dresher, PA) for a relay win in the 800 freestyle relay.
Kleso also took second in the 100 breaststroke for the Hawks with a time of 1:01.23. Goble was 3rd in the 200 backstroke (2:03.30), 4th in the 100 backstroke (56:07), and 5th in the 200 fly. Willcox earned 2nd in the 200 fly race (2:01.55) and 4th in the 100 fly (55:06). Freshman Conor Dwyer (Barrington, RI) was 5th in the 400 IM and 6th in the 200 fly for 'Wick.
Sophomores Stephanie Ha (Everett, WA) and Robyn Smith (Jupiter, FL) each earned a pair of top-5 finishes to lead the Hartwick women's team. Ha registered Hartwick's top finish of the day placing 2nd in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.67. She also touched the wall in fourth place in the 100 fly (1:00.40). Smith was 3rd in the 200 backstroke in 2:14.77, and she was three places behind Ha in the 100 back with a time of 1:03.57.
Freshman Whitney Fletcher (Superior, CO) turned in a 5th-place effort in the 200 breaststroke (2:31.48) and also placed 6th in the 100 breast (1:10.68). Classmate Mallory Weber (Naperville, IL) was 5th in the 200 butterfly and Katie Holmes (Cotuit, MA) earned 6th in the 200 back event.
