CLINTON, NY - Freshman Alex Rimmer scored both goals to lead Hamilton College to a 2-0 win over visiting Hartwick College in a non-league women's soccer game on Sept. 29. Rimmer, who was named a Liberty League co-rookie of the week on Monday, now has four goals in the last three games. The Continentals improve to 4-3 with the win. The Hawks (2-5) have now lost three straight contests.
Both teams played a scoreless game for over 42 minutes of the first half. The Continentals grabbed a 1-0 lead with 2:39 left in the first half as freshman Meg Pengue sent a cross into the box from the right side. Hawks' goalkeeper Kelly Griffin (Wynantskill, NY/Columbia) came out to play it, but the ball eluded her and fell right to Rimmer, who touched the ball into an open goal.
Hartwick remained within a goal until the 73rd minute. Hamilton's Lauren Farver sent a corner kick into the box from the left side and the ball found Rimmer, who headed it in a few feet in front of the goal line.
The Continentals enjoyed a 25-8 edge in shots for the evening. Kate Bosy (Scotia, NY/St. Francis Univ.), Lauren Ploof (Hammond, NY/Hammond), and Ricki Cullum (Everett, WA/Cascade) recorded the Hartwick shots on goal in the match. Kate Fowler recorded her first shutout of the year as she stopped all three shots she faced. Griffin made eight saves.
Hamilton hosts league rival William Smith College on Saturday, Oct. 3. Hartwick next travels to Rochester Institute of Technology also on Saturday as the Hawks look to rebound from last Saturday's overtime heartbreaker to St. John Fisher.
