’Wick Women’s Basketball Drops Empire 8 Game to Stevens

          HOBOKEN, NJ – The Hartwick women's basketball team fell to Stevens Institute of Technology by a final score of 70-50 at Canavan Arena in Hoboken, NJ on Sunday. The loss drops the Hawks' overall record to 4-9 overall and 2-4 in conference play. The Ducks improve to 7-5 and 5-1 in the Empire 8.
          For the second straight game, seniors Heather Pruchansky (Naples, FL/Community School of Naples) and Cassie Dresser (Ovid, NY/South Seneca) paced the Hawks in scoring as the duo combined to shoot 10-of-15 from the floor for 30 points. Pruchansky finished with a team-high 16 points, including four three-pointers. Dresser scored 14 points and had team-bests of five rebounds and three steals. Freshman Jalicia Connell (Westbury, NY/Hicksville) added nine points for the Hawks.
          Jill Barrett led the Ducks with 15 points. Paige Armstrong registered 11 and Sarah Gehring contributed 10.
          Stevens shot 46% from the floor in the game. The Hawks had a cold night making just 26% of their shots. The Ducks scored 44 points in the paint and held a 50-27 advantage in rebounds in the contest.
          The two teams battled evenly through the opening 13 minutes of the first half until the Ducks turned a 24-21 lead into an 11-point edge at the half thanks to a 13-5 run to close the period.
          Early in the second half, the Stevens lead grew to 15 but the Hawks would fight back and cut the edge to eight points on three different occasions in the next eight minutes. A Laneka Brown (Spring Glen, NY/Ellenville) three-pointer made the score 48-40 with 10:56 to play but the Ducks would take control with a 16-0 run over the next five minutes to put the game away. 
          The Hawks are idle until next Saturday when they host Utica College at 2 p.m.
