Hawks Soar Past Fisher 55-47

          ROCHESTER, NY – Hartwick women's basketball defeated St. John Fisher on the road on Saturday 55-47 to salvage a weekend split. The win for the Hawks is their second straight over the Cardinals at Manning and Napier Gym. Hartwick's victory gives the team an overall record of 5-11 and 3-6 in the Empire 8. Fisher slips to 9-8 and 4-5.
          Hartwick took the lead for good late in the first half, going on a 10-1 run over the final 2:32 of the opening period to take a 28-21 at intermission. Senior Lauren Ploof (Hammond, NY/Hammond) scored nine of her 14 points in the half.
          The Hawks pushed their lead to 10 points, 37-27, with 15 left in the game, but Fisher went on a 14-3 run over the next eight minutes to pull to within one point at 41-40. Junior
Amanda Lax scored nine of Fisher's points during the run, all of which came on 3-pointers. With just over six minutes left and Hartwick leading 43-42, the Hawks went on a 10-1 run over the next five minutes to pull away.
          Hartwick, after hitting just 16% in yesterday's loss to RIT, shot 19-for-40 (47.5%) from the field, including 6-for-10 (60.0%) from beyond the arc. Fisher shot 16-for-66 (24.2%) from the floor for the game, including just 4-for-20 (20.0%) from 3-point range.
          Jalicia Connell (Westbury, NY/Hickville) led the Hawks with 14 points and 10 rebounds, three steals and three blocks. To go along with her 14 points, Ploof added three assists and three steals. Heather Pruchansky (Naples, FL/Community School of Naples) added nine points for the Hawks.
          Lax led Fisher with 14 points, while Stephanie Sweeney added 12 points and five steals.
          The Hawks will take a break from Empire 8 play for a non-conference game at Albany College of Pharmacy on Tuesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Albany.
