MORRISVILLE, NY - Junior Lauren Mausert (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) and freshman Kelly Spengel (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) combined for 41 kills to lead Hartwick in a 3-2 comeback victory over Morrisville State on Thursday night. The host Mustangs edged the Hawks in the first two sets, 27-25, 28-26, but the Hawks rallied to take the final three, 25-22, 25-16, and 15-6 for the win. The Hawks have won two straight matches and improve to 6-20.
Mausert finished with a season-best 21 kills and hit .349 for the match to pace the Hawks. She added 16 digs. Sprengel notched a season-high 20 kills with nine digs and three aces.
Courtney Desmond (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Hendrick Hudson) chipped in with 14 kills and hit .300 on the night. She also registered eight digs. Freshman Katie Ryan (Circleville, NY/Pine Bush) also made it into double figures in kills with 11.
Brianna Eckert (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) recorded the team-high in digs for the second straight match with 18. Christina Vitale (Port Jefferson Station, NY/St. John the Baptist) added 14 and notched seven aces. Shannon McGee (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) notched a career-best 53 assists and picked up six digs.
The Hawks are off until October 22nd when they travel to Ithaca for the second of two Empire 8 Crossover Weekends. 'Wick takes on the host Bombers and RIT on the first night of competition.
