Volleyball Drops Pair to Wrap Up Play at Oneonta Invitational

ONEONTA, NY - Hartwick went the distance against SUNYIT and took host Oneonta State to four sets but came away with two losses on Saturday to conclude play at the Oneonta Invitational. The Hawks battled back from a two-set deficit against the Wildcats before falling in five sets and took the first set against the Red Dragons. The Hawks are now 4-16 overall.

SUNYIT won the opening two sets 27-25 and 25-22 before Hartwick grabbed the next two by counts of 25-19 and 25-23. The Wildcats would emerge with the win in the race to 15 points in the fifth set.

Lauren Mausert (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) and Courtney Desmond (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Hendrick Hudson) combined for 22 kills for 'Wick in the match. Mausert would finish with a double-double with a team-high 15 digs. Mickey Coons (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall) registered 13 digs and four service aces and Christina Vitale (Port Jefferson Station, NY/St. John the Baptist) notched 11 digs. Shannon McGee (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) and Britney Lintner (Ravena, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) combined for 27 assists.

Against the Red Dragons, Hartwick took a one set to none lead with a 25-20 win in the opening set. The hosts, however, would take the next three sets, 25-21, 25-17, 25-16 for the 3-1 triumph.

Mausert missed a second straight double-double with nine kills and 11 digs. Desmond added five aces for the Hawks, which notched 16 in the match for its second-highest total of the season. Vitale contributed eight digs, Coons notched seven, and Kelly Sprengel (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) added six.

Hartwick next competes at the Lycoming Invitational next weekend. The Hawks open against Misericordia on Friday at 6 p.m.
