ONEONTA, NY - Hartwick broke four Oneonta State pool records on Saturday as both men's and women's team remained unbeaten. The men won 162-72 while the women were victorious 165-76. The losses drop both Oneonta teams to 1-2 overall in dual meets. Both the Hartwick men and women raise their records to 5-0.
Hartwick's John Wojtech (Bremerton, WA) and Joshua McNorton (Sanford, NC) each were double winners for the men. Wojtech won both the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke events. Wojtech set an Oneonta pool record in winning the latter event in a time of 1:01.40. McNorton set a pool record in winning the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:21.57. He also won the 500 free event.
Kenny Kleso (Milford, PA), Brad Ranson (Pennington, NJ), and Nate Quinn (Fonda, NY) each won events for Hartwick. Kleso won the 200 free event, Ranson secured first place in the 50 free race, and Quinn was tops in the 1-meter diving. The Hawks' 400 medley and 400 free relay teams also were winners on the day.
Sophomore and Oneonta native, Alex Miller, led the Red Dragons with a pair of wins. Miller won both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke events.
The Hawks had two double winners today individually as Robyn Smith (Jupiter, FL) captured both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 back and Samantha McFarland (Derry, PA) took the 200 free and 500 free. Both McFarland and Stephanie Ha (Everett, WA) of Hartwick set pool records in winning the 200 free and 100 fly respectively. In total, the Hawks won nine of 13 events on the day.
Erin Holladay (Everett, WA) and Whitney Fletcher (Superior, CO) each were single winners. Holladay won the 1000 free and Fltecher captured the 100 breaststroke event. The Hawks, like the men, swept the relay events.
Oneonta sophomore Kristen Magliola set a pool record in winning the 200 IM event with a time of 2:15.31. She also placed second in the 200 breaststroke. Senior diver Jamie Milchanowski took both rounds of 1-meter diving for Oneonta. She scored 191.55 points in the first round and then scored 135.75 points to take the second round.
The Hawks travel to Schenectady, NY to face RPI tomorrow. The Red Dragons are in action again next weekend when they compete in the North Country Invitational hosted by SUNY Potsdam.
