SCRANTON, PA – Hartwick tied a season-best with eight different goal scorers in a 13-8 victory over Marywood Friday night in Scranton, PA. The Hawks also recorded season-highs of eight assists and 37 ground balls on the evening. Sophomore Emily Walsh (Cortland, NY/Cortland) led the way for 'Wick with three goals and an assist.
Sophomore Hannah Kennedy (Avon, CT/Avon) added two goals and two assists for the Blue and White, and Erica Scicchitano (Centerport, NY/Harborfields) contributed two goals and one helper. Freshman Ryan McGovern (Miller Place, NY/Rocky Point) scored a career-best two goals and goalkeeper Jen Kaye (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) matched a season-high with 14 saves in the Hartwick cage.
Hartwick erupted for a 10-2 lead in the opening half of play. Tiffanie Bishop (Shoreham, VT/Middlebury), Kennedy, and Walsh each tallied to give Hartwick a 3-1 lead in the opening two and a half minutes of the first half.
The Hawks then began to pull away as they hit the net four times in a 1:30 span or a 7-1 edge. Emily Piedigrossi (Cortland, NY/Cortland) started the rally and Scicchitano, McGovern, and Kennedy each added goals to open up the big lead.
After the Pacers stopped the bleeding with a goal midway through the half, Walsh and McGovern notched their second goals of the game, respectively, and freshman Erin Doyle (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) added a tally to make the score 10-2 with 8:56 to play.
Marywood got back into the match with a late first-half rally featuring four unanswered goals in a 3:57 span to cut the 'Wick lead to four, 10-6. Hawk leading scorer Brittany LaVaute (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) answered for Hartwick in the final minute for an 11-6 lead at the break.
Walsh scored her third of the day and 17th of the season early in the second half before the Pacers scored twice to make the score 12-8 with 23 minutes left in the game. Neither team added to their total for the next 22 minutes of action and Scicchitano tacked on her 23rd of the year with less than two minutes to go to put the game away.
The Pacers held narrow advantages in shots (28-26), ground balls (34-33), and draw controls (13-10) in the game. Marywood was led offensively by Taylor McKeown, who tallied four times.
